I left early Sunday morning to meet Gregs in time for church, at First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh. After recently reading Francis Schaeffer's "Art and the Bible" I feel like he would have really appreciated the beauty of the church.
I think it is during the second hymn, while everyone was standing, that the "wall" behind the pulpit opened up into a huge room behind it with stain glass windows. Greg tried to tell me about it before, but he did not do it justice.
Later in the evening, after dark, in the cold cold rain, we walked uphill for about an hour. Greg then had me close my eyes and led me a little ways and then told me I could open them. We were standing on top of Mt Washington and from where we were standing could see the entire city lit up. The reflection of the city lights doubled, due to the rain. It was beautiful.
The next day we went to Photo Antiquities on the north side. I LOVED it. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. We were given a tour and a whole history of photography and photography processes. We learned about the daguerreotype, ambrotype and tintype processes, and then glass negatives. There was a whole wall of early postmortem photos, that were beautifully eerie. There was an exhibit of the history of polaroid. There were walls and shelves filled with cameras upon cameras, I have never seen so many cameras in one place.
I did not want to leave, it was absolutely incredible. The clarity and quality of the antique photos was outstanding. I can not really express the experience and the plethora of what I saw and learned, so I will stop trying to express it.
It was the best trip to Pitts so far. Thank you GREG!!
and happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day!
